Reveal Cake

I did another reveal cake today. I did it the same style as the previous one, but in an 8" circle. It was french vanilla (can't tell you what color it was dyed, yet!!) and covered entirely in fondant. It had bow and button accents.

Valentine's Rose Cake

I seriously love this cake. I love the all white roses. The inside is strawberry. It is covered in buttercream and sprayed with lustre dust to make it shimmer. Yum!

[edit 5/10/12: Apparently I have upset someone because they feel that I am leading you to believe that this rose cake is my original design. I did not come up with the design for this cake, nor have I ever claimed that I came up with the design for this cake. I never intended you to believe that I came up with the design for this cake. I first saw this cake on pinterest a few months ago when it was being repinned for the 10,000th time. I then followed the pin to I am Baker's rose cake tutorial where she explains in detail how to make this cake. I figured anyone with an internet connection has seen this cake all over the web, so I never even assumed that someone would think I came up with this on my own. According to Amber from my comments section, I "stole" this cake design. However, personally I don't consider it stealing when the person who came up with it puts a step-by-step tutorial on their blog telling you how to make it. When someone does that, I am assuming that they want others to use their idea. Especially when the blogger says, "SO excited to share with you how easy it is to make the rose cakeSeriously, once you see you are going to run right out, buy a 1M tip, and make one."  For some reason I was under the impression that she wanted others to use her cake design. Maybe I read into that all wrong. However, I apologize if I led anyone to believe I came up with this. I did not. ]

Wedding Shower Cake

I also did a wedding shower cake for this weekend for the daughter of a sweet, sweet friend of my mother-in-law. I did a 2 tiered SQUARE cake for her!! I don't know why I rarely do squares, but for some reason I gravitate towards my round pans when I am baking. I really like squares, though. And squares were perfect for this cake!!

The bottom tier was french vanilla, covered in fondant with fondant damask-like accents around it. The top tier was dark chocolate fudge, covered in fondant with a quilted pattern accented with pearls. On top was a fondant bow. I love the navy and white combination of this cake. I decided to spray the cake with a lustre dust when I was finished with it to give it a shimmer. It altered the color of the cake a bit, which I was disappointed about. Before I sprayed it, the navy was the most beautiful, rich blue color. I LOVED it. After I sprayed it, it added a tint of a silver sheen, making it more of a gun metal color. Still pretty, just not what I had originally mixed.

I also did some navy and white cookies for the shower. Still not too proud of my cookies, but they are getting better, I think. I didn't completely hate the royal icing this time... just slight hatred. Ugh. I hope to eventually perfect these, because I think they could be so cute. Anyone with pointers... I'll take them!!

Baby Reveal Cake

I did a baby reveal cake for my friend Lauren for this weekend. We found a design that we loved on pinterest and used that one, with a few differences. I checked first to make sure that it was okay that we used this girl's design... she didn't mind.

The cake was french vanilla, dyed... BLUE, because my sweet friend is having a boy! The cake was then covered in marshmallow fondant with a quilted center, and different colored stripes, bows and buttons to accent.

Congratulations, Lauren!!
